Sascha Brastoff (1917–1993) was a multifaceted American artist whose career spanned performance, costume design, and ceramics. In 1947, he established a ceramics studio in Los Angeles, which became renowned for its mid-century modern designs and employed a team of artists to produce his creations. Among his notable works is the “Alaska Series,” a collection of sculptures and tableware inspired by Alaskan wildlife and indigenous themes.
Crafted in translucent resin with a subtle frosted finish, this seal sculpture captures Brastoff’s blend of stylized form and lifelike detail. The seal’s sleek, arched posture and gently tapered flippers evoke both the grace of the animal in motion and the clean lines of mid-century modern design, making it a striking decorative accent.
