Red, black, and blue. Not a typo.
An abstract American flag in acrylic on canvas by Michael Jiroch — heavily textured, weathered, and deliberate. The palette replaces white with black, giving the whole thing a weight and mood that a straight flag painting doesn't carry. 43 x 55" and signed on the reverse. Jiroch holds a BS and MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, had a solo exhibition at the Los Angeles Museum of Art in 1981, and has shown at BGH Gallery Santa Monica, Pacific Design Center West Hollywood, and the Biennale in Florence. Currently based in Santa Fe.
