Sascha Brastoff Alaska Series Serving Plate - Inuit

Sascha Brastoff (1917–1993) was a multifaceted American artist whose career included performance, costume design, and ceramics. In 1947 he opened a Los Angeles studio renowned for its mid-century modern pottery, employing a team of designers to produce richly detailed glazes and sculptural forms. His Alaska Series captures Arctic wildlife and indigenous themes in bold ombré finishes and dynamic brushwork.

Crafted in high-gloss glazed ceramic with a smooth ivory-to-charcoal ombré, this generous serving plate showcases a finely hand-painted Inuit figure carrying traditional implements, set against stylized mountain and icefield accents. Its gently upturned rim and organic contour embody Brastoff’s elegant modernist aesthetic while celebrating Alaska’s rugged spirit.
